ABOUT

Basic Life uses cell phone logos available for purchase on the net as starting seed for a game of life. These logos are the basic images of our time, used by millions of people, symbolizing their attitudes, emotions, their humor and in most cases - their view of what is really moving our society through bought visualisations.

The dot - the building block of the festival's logo - is used to bring these logos to life by destroying, moving and rearranging them. Every day, a new image can be watched as it starts to live and shows you what it really is: nothing more than simple dots - visualising a world of steady flux.

At the end of the festival, a desktop application that allows you to use your own pictures as starting population will be released. You`ll see what you can grow!

Basic Life is a web installation by Peter Riegersperger for subnet and the Basics Festival.

(Note: To see the installation, you need Java installed. If you experience problems watching the applet, please consider downloading Java)
